Good afternoon, Grand Rapids and officially Happy New Year! I hope everyone’s off to a great start in 2016!
Alex is a Brewer/cellar warden at The Mitten and he suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle accident late last year (he’s currently recovering) and the benefit tonight will help him with substantial medical bills.
I do not know Alex personally, but I do know many in the beer community and because of this, my social media has blown up about his accident, recovery and best of all – the amazing community of friends, family and people who genuinely want to help him out. I’ve read countless posts about his situation, how others are selflessly giving and donating to help out in any way they can and the true love that fellow humans living in GR and Michigan can give to another in need. It’s been truly inspiring and wonderful to see this in action – even if it is only through social media.
That being said – the benefit tonight is definitely a great way to spend your Thursday evening, whether you know Alex personally or not. Benefit highlights include:
- Local sensation, The Crane Wives giving a live performance from 7-10pm
- Silent auction including some awesome packages from Michigan breweries and friends of Alex
- Enjoying tasty Mitten brews, eating delicious food and meeting some pretty rad people! (The brewery is also donating 50% of food sales to Alex as well – pizza never sounded so good!)
If you want to read more about Alex’s story and witness the social media love, head over to mlive or checkout the benefit event Facebook page You can also donate without attending by heading over to Alex’s Go Fund Me page.
Don’t forget to get to and from the event safely – Uber is a great way to do so. Just download the app!
I feel so proud to live in a community that bands together for an event like this! Hope you all can be a part of it. #GRrocks
