The Great Lakes Commonwealth of Letters, a writers’ center for Great Lakes Region writers – is hosting an exciting event to showcase young writers work – Writers Under 30: Opening Reading tomorrow. The event is part of a new series hosted by GLCL and Bombadil Books and is an open reading for young writers to read his/her work aloud (slots are now full for tomorrow).
I’m pretty giddy about this event because I love hearing other writers’ work and I think there is truly something special about having the author read aloud, the words that have been labored over and revised who knows how many times by the author. There’s a bit of magic and empowerment to this type of experience. I myself, am a writer under 30 and I am definitely eager to see who will be reading, what medium and styles of writing are being produced and shared among young writers and hopefully, making some new connections (and perhaps seeing old ones as well) and probably asking questions – the curiosity always lives on in my brain!
I highly recommend this event to anyone interested in learning more about GLCL (without the pressure of purchasing a membership), wanting to hear what young writers in the area are penning about and anyone wanting to try a new type of event. GLCL is located on the southwest corner of Eastern Ave. and Wealthy St. in Uptown so why not make a night of it and check out some local restaurants, breweries, bars or shops? Uptown is not lacking in any of the aforementioned establishments and maybe you could even catch a few Pokemon on the way? 😉
Doors open at 6:30pm and the event will be moderated by the young talent, Danielle Clark. Read more about it on the GLCL Facebook event page or head to the website to learn more about membership, upcoming events (like the Writers Squared series happening tonight) and resources for local writers.
I’ll be attending tomorrow’s event and will update you on all the happenings via social media. Follow me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to stay up-to-date and don’t forget to #GrabGR for all of your local adventures! As always, thank you for reading.
